The PAU Newsletter, Vol 2, Issue 2, December 2024
Editorial: Journeying On
"Great trees grow not in ease, but in enduring the storms." In 2024, Uganda's oil and gas sector stood tall, demonstrating resilience, and an unwavering commitment to sustainability.
From steady progress on the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) and the near completion of land acquisition for the key projects, to the acceleration of the upstream works crucial for First Oil, Uganda’s oil and gas sector continues to reach critical milestones. This has been achieved amidst balanced development with biodiversity conservation and maintaining social cohesion.
Uganda's oil and gas project has weathered numerous challenges to achieve key milestones, positioning the country as a rising regional energy powerhouse as the development phase reaches an advanced stage.
This end-of-year edition celebrates these achievements, explores strategies for managing strategic risks, highlights advancements in national content development, and underscores the sector's sustainable growth. Uganda took centre stage during the discussions at key international conferences, including COP29, the Africa Energy Week and Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference. The resounding call remains that climate actions (and progress on the energy transition) must follow the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities.
This edition also reflects on the Mr. Dozith Abeinomugisha’s (RIP) legacy who served as Director Midstream at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda. He had an illustrious career as one of the titans and longest-serving Geoscientists in Uganda’s oil and sector. He was a vital figure in the early exploration work and the progress of EACOP.
As always, your engagement inspires us to deliver content tailored to keep you informed about the latest in the oil and gas industry. We welcome your feedback to help us serve you even better.
Happy reading, and best wishes for the New Year 2025!
