The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU), Kyambogo University and the Oil and Gas Trainer’s Association of Uganda (OGTAU) are set to host the second Oil and Gas Skills Expo on 22nd and 23rd August 2024, building on the success of last year’s inaugural event. The Expo, which will take place at the university’s CTF Grounds, is designed to bridge the gap between the oil and gas industry’s demands and the skill sets available among the workforce, particularly students and recent graduates.

Skills development and networking

The Expo, happening under the theme, “Training and Skilling: Unlocking Employment Opportunities in the Oil and Gas Sector and Beyond”, will bring together key players in the oil and gas sector, academia, and aspiring professionals. It will feature interactive workshops focused on key oil and gas industry areas, such as drilling technologies, environmental management, and safety practices. These sessions are designed to enhance participants’ technical and soft skills, making them more competitive in the job market. In addition, career guidance sessions will help students navigate the industry’s complexities, providing advice on job search strategies, resume writing, and interview preparation.

Exhibitions and industry insights

Another highlight of the Expo will be the exhibitions, where leading companies from the oil and gas sector will showcase their latest innovations, services, and career opportunities. Attendees will have the chance to explore different aspects of the industry, gain insights from professionals, and learn about the various career paths available. The exhibitions will also provide a platform for companies to engage with potential recruits, offering internships, graduate programmes, and employment opportunities.

As the oil and gas industry continues to evolve, events like the Oil and Gas Skills Expo are essential in preparing the next generation of professionals to meet the industry’s demands.
